(Photo) Col. Duane Kunde of Brainerd recently received the Minnesota Distinguished Service Medal from Major General James Sieben. The award honored his outstanding 38-year career with the National Guard, including service in WWII and Korea.

Two Brainerd Golden Glove boxers scored wins on a card held in Wadena. Mark Herron took a split decision over Mark Baron, Wadena, in the featured bout and Paul Streiff scored a unanimous decision over Tim Bayerl, Little Falls.

In the first match of the season for the Brainerd Rifle and Pistol Club, the local No. 1 team went down to a close, eight-point defeat to Deerwood. Cliff Newton led the winners with 379 of 400. Louie Favrou led Brainerd, shooting the night's high score of 384.
