Time heals, but scars last. None of four Brainerd area men who were at Pearl
Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, drives a Japanese car. They remember. Max Garten,
Pequot Lakes; Walter Krueger, Walker; Walt Silbaugh, Pine River; and Charles
Hauer, Brainerd, were there.

Incoming mail today boosted the total number of children registering to
attend the 5th Annual Rural Children’s Christmas Party to 2,831, sponsored
by the Brainerd Civic Assn. and the Jaycees. Children attending Saturday
will be treated to candy and a movie.
80 years ago (1931)
The placing of a bounty on wolves has apparently had the necessary effect
since farmers and trappers report fewer wolves in the county than in many
previous years. Henry Krause, deputy auditor, said that fewer than 200
trapping licenses have been issued.
100 years ago (1911)
John McCarthy, of 43 West Bluff Avenue, father of Charles McCarthy, chief
clerk at the M & I railway office, suffered a paralytic stroke at 2 a.m. He
is unconscious, and his family is gathered at his bedside.
