40 years ago (1971)

Only one bid was received by the water and light department for the installation of fluoridation equipment, and it has been tabled. Dave Reed, city engineer, said the bid of $11,704 from Tonka Equipment appeared to be a good bid.

60 years ago (1951)

When a Prairie Lake township farmer filed a complaint against two men alleging theft of deer from his barn, it led to his own arrest on charges of having an untagged deer in his possession. In all, four men ended up in court answering to theft and tagging charges.

80 years ago (1931)

Brainerd’s new junior high school will be completely enclosed in the next two weeks, and the work is well ahead of schedule. While the general contractor employs more than 70 men, subcontractors add to the total, bringing workers there to more than 100 men.

100 years ago (1911)

F. B. Congdon, the milkman, walked through a large glass window at the D. M. Clark Co. store. While watching his team through the window he became alarmed they would run. He poked his head through the window, pulling back just in time to avoid having it severed.
