20 years ago (1991)

Some people can’t get any breaks. Eric Loge would like to avoid them. For the second straight season the Brainerd man is racing snowmobiles while hindered by a bone fracture. Last year he raced with a broken foot, not only finishing the season but winning.


30 years ago (1981)

Tim Martin came off the bench to light a fire under the Warriors with some torrid outcourt shooting. But his 28 points weren’t enough as Mike Morgan’s team went down 60-56 to Alexandria. At one point, Martin hit nine consecutive field goals.

40 years ago (1971)

Seven of eight Brainerd Golden Glove boxers scored decisions on a card at Little Falls. Winners were Joey Kretzman, Don Rude, Mark Herron, Kerry Palmer, Steve Bonsante, Dick Schmidt and Pete DeChaine. Little Falls seeks revenge here on a Thursday card.

80 years ago (1931)

All parts of an unassembled monocoupe airplane except the wings were destroyed in a blaze that leveled Emil Nelson’s garage in West Brainerd. His car was also burned. The firemen could not save the garage as it was beyond the reach of the water main.

100 years ago (1911)

R. C. Craddock, who is employed at the Barrows mine, was in town and said work is progressing favorably on the second shaft. The buckets are hoisted and run out on a cable where they automatically dump themselves.
