20 years ago (1992)

A man who robbed the Triangle 1 Stop convenience on Oak Street while threatening to shoot the clerk, was arrested minutes later walking a few blocks from the crime scene. The man entered the store at 9:30 p.m., demanded all the cash and threatened the clerk.

30 years ago (1982)

(Photos) Plummeting temperatures and a severe wind-chill did not stop the 3rd Annual International Eelpout Festival from being held at Walker. Ken Buranen worked to keep his hole clear. Fishermen found holes iced over soon after they were drilled.

40 years ago (1972)

A brown-eyed, 22-year-old sixth grade teacher – Carol Swenson – was selected Miss Crosby-Ironton in the event, held in tandem with the 14th Annual Crosby Fishing Marathon. It was C-I’s first queen pageant naming a Snow Frolics Queen.

60 years ago (1952)

(Photo) Here is the new camp on Whipple Lake, built by the Brainerd Lions Club with labor donated by the Carpenters Union. The camp is to be used by Camp Fire Girls, Girl Scouts and 4-H girls. It has a dining lodge, dormitory and administration building.

80 years ago (1932)

His family poverty stricken, himself broken in spirit and dejected by his inability to find work, a 29-year-old Brainerd man shot himself in front of his wife and four children at their Laurel St. home. His widow said half the time they had nothing in the house to eat.

100 years ago (1912)

Tony Bohlke came down from Hubert this noon carefully carrying a box. One man thought it must be diamonds or something equally valuable. It was found to contain 3 dozen newly laid eggs. Eggs are quoted so high now that few people eat them.
