Throughout the years St. Cloud Tech and Brainerd Warrior gymnastics teams have gone to the wire to determine trips to state – with Brainerd wins in 1986, 1987 and 1988 determined by 1.16 total points. Friday, Tech edged Brainerd in a regular season tilt.

One of the most complicated lawsuits to hit District Court in years began today, stemming from cracks that appeared in the wall panels of the Law Enforcement Center. The trial involves eight attorneys, six business firms and one government agency.

Michael Wise, son of Mrs. E. W. Wise, Brainerd, has been named general manager of Dairy Queen Financial and Dairy Queen Realty. He is a graduate of St. John’s Univ. with a master’s at the Univ. of Minn. He lives in Bloomington with wife Sara and 3 children.

(Photo) Brainerd fire chief George Lucas watches warily as one of the “bargain” sweaters many folks received as Christmas gifts bursts into flames in a demonstration at the fire hall. The rayon garments are highly flammable and especially dangerous for smokers.

Oil station operators in the city of Brainerd who are delinquent in their gasoline pump licenses must either pay up or close up. The council ordered that the chief of police collect the fees or, if not paid, to shut down the pumps.
100 years ago (1912)
The first baby born in Barrows, the mining town 3 miles south of Brainerd, arrived January 19. It was a 14-pound boy to Capt, and Mrs. Mathews of the mining company. The Iron Range Townsite Co. has given the baby a platted lot in the town.
