Brainerd snowmobile racers Steve Vandeputte and Rick Strobel competed in last weekend’s MRP Sno-Cross Challenge at Oronoco. Vandeputte was first in semi-pro Class 4 and Strobel was third in pro stock.

The Warrior swim team registered its 2nd straight conference victory with a 115-53 trouncing of Little Falls. Ed Abrahamson was a double winner, taking the 50 free and 100 backstroke. Among other winners were Joe Vrudny, Frank Rezac and Steve Monkman.

Four Brainerd Golden Glovers have moved into the finals of the sectional tournament to be held at Wadena. Fighting for a trip to the Upper Midwest tourney are Joey Kretzman, Paul DeChaine, Don Rude and Mark Herron.

Two teen-age boys, wearing white handkerchiefs over their faces, entered the home of William Johnston, age 75, Long Lake Township, and robbed him of the $2 in his wallet. The two youngsters threatened Johnston with his life, and tore his telephone off the wall.

Taking only cigarettes and cigars, thieves broke into the Nash-Finch Co. warehouse at 4th and Front Streets last night and escaped. A checkup today revealed a total of 58,800 cigarettes and 3,490 cigars were stolen. The loot was valued at more than $600.

Inspector George Pippy, of the state bureau of labor, has started a crusade in Brainerd for the rigid enforcement of the pool room and billiard laws forbidding minors from frequenting them. He will also see that the curfew law is strictly enforced.
