Craig Feierabend of Brainerd stood in 27th place after the first leg of the International 500 Snowmobile Race from White Bear Lake to Thunder Bay. Other area racers were: Tom Feierabend, Kevin Spielman, Eric Loge, Greg Watland and Mike Abrahamson.

Judd Turner, 32, was today named new director of the Brainerd Family YMCA. He is certified by the YMCA and moves here from the Dubuque, Iowa, YMCA. Turner replaces Don Kerr, who resigned to accept a position at the Bismarck, N.D., YMCA.

Crow Wing County answered the largest induction call since the selective service act of 1948 when 28 men left for induction into the armed forces today. All but two left at 6:30 a.m. by bus for Minneapolis. The other two have already moved to Minneapolis.

Six Brainerd men with families went to work today, and more will be added as business demands by the Mutual Coal Co., which early this week opened an office and coal yard. Only Brainerd men will be employed, and those with families will be given preference.

It appears that a short time after the Bachelor Maids announced their dance for Friday, February 9 at the Elks Hall, the Bachelor Girls set their dance for Thursday, February 8. The two organizations have no connection with each other.
