Last weekend, senior center Jerr Johnson became Brainerd’s all-time single-season points record holder with a goal and two assists, giving him 53 points. Yesterday, against St. Cloud Tech, he scored four goals to break the single-season goals record held by Sandy Smith.

(Photo) A mass exodus from the Brainerd Country Club yesterday marked the start of the Lumberjack Jaunt and Mini-Jaunt cross country ski races. More than 120 racers competed in the five and 16 kilometer races, with Dave Nygaard the overall winner.

Two teenage Baxter girls are in St. Joseph’s Hospital after escaping from the icy waters near Moonlite Bay. Kristine and Jan Nelson were on the same snowmobile when it broke through in 40 feet of water. After escaping, their clothes froze solid walking to safety.

Brainerd residents had an average gross income of $3,859 during 1950, and paid state income tax of $50.62, according to G. Howard Spaeth, commissioner of taxation. There were 2,456 individual state income tax returns filed in 1950 by Brainerd residents.

Ft. Ripley’s own vigilante system brought the arrest of two young men in the Tucker General Merchandise Store last night, loaded with five gunnysacks of loot. Claude Tucker, also village marshal, got his two brothers out of bed to assist in the arrest.
