Brainerd senior Lance Hoff won the 50 and 100-yard free races at the Section 8 swim meet at Grand Forks, both in meet-record time. He successfully defended his 50 free title in 21.30 seconds and won the 100 free in 47.16. Both records were held by Del Cerney, Staples.

The State Executive Council voted to give Gov. Quie authority to safeguard Baxter’s municipal water supply. Mayor Jon Main said city officials are concerned the municipal well may become contaminated as DNR employees dumped herbicides near the well.

More than 500 boys and girls have completed snowmobile safety courses in this area this winter, thanks to the Brainerd Chamber of Commerce and volunteer instructors under the leadership of John Thomas. Certificates are needed for snowmobile drivers under 18.

With a chance to sew up the conference title, the Brainerd Warriors gave it all they had last night but fell at St. Cloud Tech, 53-49. The loss was the first in the last 11 games for Brainerd, which is feeling the absence of the injured Gup Hess at forward.

EMBA took three straight games from the Brainos in bowling action at Van’s Alleys, while Peterson Clothing took two from Bye Clothing. Harold Olson set a new season record, totaling 672 for three games, beating Lester Boyd’s mark by four pins.

A recent incident shows the sleuth-like abilities of Officer J.P. Barney. A package, stolen from the railway express office, was found and turned over to the Dispatch. It was advertised as laundry, but Barney inspected and found it was stolen bartender vests.
