Property tax statements being distributed this month will carry a new charge in Crow Wing County. In addition to regular taxes, there will be a solid waste disposal assessment levied against all developed properties with building values in excess of $1,000.

Jim Crawford was a young man with a mission at the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves Tourney. His mission was Dave Peltzer, No. 1-ranked middleweight. “I intend to show them who’s No. 1,” said Crawford. He did, stopping Peltzer by unanimous decision.

An offer of $15,000 for land between South 6th and South 8th Streets owned by the BN Railroad was approved by the Brainerd City Council. The land is in two strips along the alleyways and, if acquired, it is likely to be used for municipal parking.

The tournament victory string ran out 70-50 for the C-I Rangers, as the Region Six champs couldn’t cope with the Austin Packers and their twin guard combo of Don and Dayle Rasmussen. Austin’s 70 points were the most ever scored in the state tournament.

At no time in the entire history of Brainerd has the water in the Mississippi been as low as it is today. One of the intakes is out of reach of the water and the pump is sucking air. All city water users are cautioned not to waste any water.
