20 years ago (1992)

Tony Bonsante of C-I and Todd Herron of Brainerd have claimed titles in the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves Championship. Bonsante, national runner-up last year, won the 156-pound title. Herron took the 178-pound title. They go to the nationals in Chicago.

30 years ago (1982)

(Photo) Andy Swift and Jim Munsch of the Brainerd Water and Light Dept. pump steam into a frozen sewer main at H Street and 3rd Avenue NE. City workers have found that warm temperatures have melted snow, but frozen storm sewers are causing lakes to form.

40 years ago (1972)

Two gas stations were hit by burglars last night according to police. Burglars entered through a window at Don’s Skelly Station, 4th & Washington. They used a jack to try to break the safe with no luck. At the Conoco station a small amount of cash was taken.

60 years ago (1952)

Between 400 and 500 wrestling fans sat patiently through two dull matches to see Brainerd’s Hal Masem take on Bobby Andorff. Though it ended in a draw, the match was exciting, with both men getting one fall. Masem returns to Camp Rucker tomorrow.

80 years ago (1932)

(Adv.) Starts Tomorrow! She had baby eyes, but she was oh so wise. Look out for the silken huntress who thrives in the city jungle. Jean Harlow stars in “The Beast of the City,” with Walter Huston and Wallace Ford. The Paramount Theatre – Brainerd.

100 years ago (1912)

Ritari Brothers are erecting four cement block residences, double houses, for William Graham on 6th Street near Ivy. The houses are two and one-half stories high and measure 32 by 34 feet. Altogether they offer homes for eight families.
