“Someone’s been climbing my tower,” said Mama Bear. But it wasn’t Goldilocks, it was Karoline Monson going to work. The DNR fire spotter was climbing up the fire tower just east of Pequot Lakes when she encountered a bear. She beat a hasty retreat.

Jake Presttun, county highway engineer here since 1927, has submitted his resignation, effective June 15, to the Crow Wing County Board. The board also approved purchase of a new sheriff’s car, with Mills Motor the only bidder at a price of $3,250.

With the first 100 people crowding into the Brainerd armory shortly after noon today, Brainerd’s Auto and Industrial Show was off to an impressive start. Show chairman, Stan Gorham of the Jaycees, says he expects 5,000 people to attend. Twelve new cars are displayed.
