Jeff Olson, camp director at Confidence Learning Center on Sylvan Lake, has been elected to the board of the Wilderness Education Association. Olson has been with the learning center six years and is a life member of the wilderness association.

(Photos) Nancy Allen receives a hug of congratulations as she is crowned Miss Crosslake during the 1982 Spring Fling. In an emotion-filled moment, Lori Wasson is crowned Miss Crosby 1982 by the 1981 winner, Joyce Erickson, at the Miss C-I Scholarship Pageant.

40 years ago (1972)

Trailing Lakewood JC by 12 strokes, the Brainerd Junior College Red Raiders finished 7th in a recent invitational tourney. Freshman Leo Marchel, Jr., led the Raiders with an 83, followed by sophomores Gene Anderson and Glenn Hasselberg with 85s.

60 years ago (1952)

Among the matches in the first round of the City Singles Bowling Tournament, Roy Warnberg topped Len Peterson, 512 to 458, and Dick Imgrund stopped Jim Richmond, 500 to 454. A highlight was Harley Busbey picking up the 4-6-7-10 split.

80 years ago (1932)

The city council issued a direct command to gasoline station operators who have not paid pump licenses, which were due January 1st. “Pay up or lock up,” was the order. There are 26 licenses due at $25 each, while 31 have already paid. The collection has been irksome.

100 years ago (1912)

Railroad yardmaster Jerry M. Glunt and Miss Bertha Glunt went to Pittsburgh, Penn., this afternoon, where Mr. Glunt will participate in the reunion of his regiment, Knapp’s Battery, which fought in the Civil War.
