History, as usual, yields to progress. This week workers will push down the old Brainerd Bottling Works to make way for a new $1.5 million, 11-unit townhouse project. It’ll be a sad day for Paul Cibuzar. His father, Joe Cibuzar, ran the plant making Braino Beverages.
30 years ago (1982)
St. Cloud Apollo, although ace hurler Kerry Setten was touched for 11 hits by the Warrior softball team, posted a 14-7 South Region 8AA tournament win to end Brainerd’s season. Coach Coleen Carder’s girls finished at 5-10 for the year.
40 years ago (1972)
(Photo) Claude Pickar of Brainerd hauled in this 16-8 northern fishing out of the Sachs Channel on Gull Lake. Pickar was using a gold spoon. Perry’s Sporting Goods took the photo.
60 years ago (1952)
The corner stone of the new St. Joseph’s Hospital, now under construction, will be blessed and laid on Sunday, June 15. The first blessing was given when ground was broken April 24, and a final blessing will be given at the formal dedication.

The horse boat, carrying hay, feed and coal, which is being towed up the river to Brainerd along with the three wangans used by Ed Lavoie’s crew of river drivers, struck a rock in being towed over the Belle Prairie rapids. The boats are being towed by a steamboat.
