30 years ago (1982)

Crow Wing County’s senior citizens got a new home last night, as the Brainerd City Council agreed to lease the old fire station as a senior center. The senior group was given a 25-year lease at a rent of $300 per month.

40 years ago (1972)

The campground north of Brainerd on the west side of Highway 371 will apparently be opened prior to July 4 as the result of action by the county planning commission. Don Johnson, one of the developers, said all specifications have been met or exceeded.

60 years ago (1952)

80 years ago (1932)

William Turcotte, appearing on behalf of the Brainerd baseball team, asked the city council to build a road from 6th Street to 7th Street in the Betzold property. He said it would make the park more accessible to the public. Cost is estimated at $75.

100 years ago (1912)

A bank, to be known as the First State Bank of Barrows, is under process of organization and the stockholders are Duluth, Brainerd and Virginia business and professional men. The Northern Pacific Railway has a crew of men laying tracks to the mine.
