Baxter police arrested a Ft. Ripley man on charges of carrying a loaded shotgun into Midwest Vision Center in the Westgate Mall, searching for a blonde woman. He bought a gun at Kmart in the Mall, loaded it and walked the 100 yards to Midwest Vision.

Brainerd High School junior Nina Borgwarth won the 100 meter low hurdle championship with a time of 14.40 seconds at the State Class AA track and field meet, also taking second in the 200 hurdles. Her sister, Kathy, holds the state record of 14.0.

“It was just sprinkling a little, but then the rain came down so hard we couldn’t see,” said Linda Herron, 18, who was camping in the Black Hills with friend Linda Christensen. The rain caused huge floods that killed 200 people, but the girls survived unhurt.

Thunderstorms, rain and winds sweeping into Brainerd from the north last night caused mounting damage in the area. Lightning struck the main service building at the Brainerd-Crow Wing County Airport, setting a fire that caused $2,000 in damages.

Elsewhere we publish a notice by the board of health urging that all river water be boiled before using. Six cases of typhoid have been confirmed. The city will increase the quantity of hypochlorite used to sterilize the water from 20 pounds to 30 pounds per day.
