Brainerd drivers Nate Thiesse and Pat O’Brien earned feature victories in stock car racing at North Central Motor Speedway. Thiesse held on for his first Mini-Stock feature win, and O’Brien defeated the 1991 Wissota National champion, Randy Silverness.

Brainerd School Superintendent Bob Gross forfeited a $3,800 pay raise yesterday in an effort to make the public see that school leadership is not exempt from sacrifices needed to maintain quality education. “I’m not thrilled, but it’s the right thing to do,” Gross said.

Wayne Haglin, Brainerd, state president of the Future Farmers of America, is directing activities at the officer training period of the state FFA camp. Haglin, who was state FFA treasurer in 1951-52, is now a student at the University of Minnesota.

The Lions remained as champions of the civic club challenge by defeating the Rotarians by a score of 6 to 5 in front of 200 fans in dedicating the new Bane baseball park. The game went from sublime to ludicrous as far as quality baseball is concerned.

The Cuyuna Range Power Co. is surveying its pole line from the dam on the Crow Wing River to its steam plant at Deerwood. The poles will carry power from the dam to the cities of Deerwood, Crosby, Ironton, Cuyuna and the Armour No. 1 and No. 2 mines.
