Dave Johnson of Brainerd won the Wissota Super Stock feature to claim the midseason championship at North Central Motor Speedway. Johnson edged out fellow Brainerd racer Dan Bordwell to win the feature race.

Fifty celebrities have been lined up to play in the 9th Annual Camp Confidence Celebrity Golf Tournament. Included are: New York Rangers hockey coach Herb Brooks, Tommy Kramer of the Vikings, and John Mariucci, asst. GM of the Minnesota North Stars.

The Brainerd Braves displayed some mid-season muscle by defeating the Pierz Pirates and the Bagley Merchants by scores of 16-2 and 15-0. Gordy Coleman celebrated his 18th birthday by belting three homers, a double and four singles in 12 at-bats.

Crow Wing County authorities lent their efforts to the dragnet extending from St. Paul to the Canadian border, hoping to capture a desperate gunman following the cold-blooded murder of a Chicago businessman. He was last seen stealing a car in Little Falls.
100 years ago (1912)
Little Falls showed its hospitality in every possible way, even allowing the Brainerd baseball team to win the game 3-2 and carry home 60 percent of the gate receipts. Both bands played and the number of fans at 1,250 was the largest crowd ever in that city.
