State Sen. Don Samuelson hit a hole-in-one at the Brainerd Golf Club on Wednesday. Samuelson used an 8-iron to ace the 131-yard No. 12. Playing with Samuelson were Al Baltes and Ray Shortridge.

A District Court judge today sentenced former Water and Light Superintendent Elmer Lalli to 18 months in prison and a $3,000 fine for bribery involved with wire sales. Lalli’s attorney, Jack Graham, had asked for probation saying his client “was truly remorseful.”

Twenty wristwatches, a stereo and some cash were taken in four break-ins overnight at local businesses. Burglars got the watches and stereo at OK Hardware, $20 at Plaza Furniture, $50 from Paul Bunyan Oil and some change from Northern Propane Gas.

The city has retained the state highway department to tar and sand the cracks in pavement of the city. Workmen started at the junction of 6th and Laurel Streets and are working north. It will take about a week to complete work in the entire city.

Although the cannonading of the hunting season does not begin until Sept. 7, chicken shooting is being discussed every day in every barber shop. Between the first and second lather the barber will tell you how many prairie chicken he saw in the field yesterday.
