Mesaba Aviation, operating as Northwest Airlink, announced that the Brainerd-Crow Wing County Regional Airport will be among the first to receive scheduled service from the 37-seat de Havilland Dash 8 Series 100 aircraft.

You and how many others live on Route 6? Too many to pinpoint your exact location, according to Brainerd Postmaster Don Rasmussen. “A house number and street name system makes good sense and helps everybody out,” said Rasmussen.

A new corporation, to be called Brainerd Improvement, Inc., received the approval of 45 downtown businessmen and pledges to buy $3,750 worth of stock at a meeting. The area covered will run from Washington Street to Oak, and from the Mississippi east to the railroad tracks.

A 15-car special train, carrying over 1,500 employees of the Northern Pacific from Minneapolis and St. Paul, arrived here at 11 a.m. for a one-day picnic and celebration with local employees. A water ski show and boat rides at Lum Park were a highlight.

More than 2,000 patrons passed through the gates as the John Francis carnival show opened in Brainerd under sponsorship of the American Legion. The carnival features 14 snappy shows and eight rollicking rides, plus a free Midway show each night.
100 years ago (1912)
George Trent of Brainerd, and George Kapler of Wadena, two of the best trap shooters in the state, engaged in a contest at Little Falls. Trent won with a score of 65 out of 75 and also is said to have won a substantial side bet. Kapler’s score was 61 out of 75 targets.
