Ninth Judicial District voters are faced with an unprecedented flood of candidates this fall. There are 16 seeking seven judgeships. In two of the contests there will be a primary. In addition, there are three open Supreme Court seats, and two have primary contests.

Tim Veith, the Central Lakes Conference’s rushing king, broke away for touchdown romps of 58 and 73 yards as Coach Ron Stolski’s Warriors defeated Totino Grace 19-14 in the season opener. Veith carried 12 times for 197 yards in all.

The sheriff’s office reported a number of thefts and break-ins over the Labor Day weekend. Thieves hit Jimbo’s Supper Club, breaking a window in the front door to steal vending machine money and liquor. A number of outboard motors were stolen.

Art Nykinen has bought a 2-cylinder, 9-horsepower Sears motorcycle, remarkable for its fast running and complete absence of noise. Art Olson and Charles Erickson have returned from a motorcycle trip to Minneapolis. They report the roads as being very wet.
