Butch Marquette of St. Michael lured in an 18-11 northern to win the 18th annual International Northern Pike tournament on Gull Lake. Larry Bellefeuille of Brainerd was second with a 15-7 northern. Over 225 anglers participated and weighed 76 fish.

The Brainerd City Council urged the Water and Light Board to delay the re-fluoridation of city water until aldermen can study a motion presented by fluoride foe Jack Graham. Len Peterson, board chair, said the state would be cool to any delay in their order.

The Barbeau Road is still under water and closed to traffic, following torrential rains this summer. The road, located north of Brainerd off Hwy 371, does not have natural drainage from the bowl-shaped area. Area residents must use other roads to access their homes.

An appeal has been made to the Eisenhower committee headquarters in Minneapolis to have the GOP presidential candidate change his motorcade route from Duluth to Minneapolis to include a stop in Brainerd, according to Bob Alderman, local chair.

Brainerd has won the pennant of the Central Minnesota Baseball Assn., with the honors formally awarded at the director’s meeting in Sauk Rapids recently. Fans in Brainerd are talking of having a banquet to suitably commemorate the occasion.
