20 years ago (1992)

Crow Wing County Commissioner Jinx Ferrari, a partner in Range Manufacturing, looks at a single engine airplane that ditched into the Portsmouth Mine Pit Lake in front of his business. The pilot and passenger swam safely to shore after the plane hit the water.

30 years ago (1982)

With much reluctance, Crow Wing County commissioners agreed to turn over five, 40-acre parcels of land to the Brainerd-Crow Wing County Airport Commission for further expansion at the airport. Several stipulations were attached to the agreement.

40 years ago (1972)

Leading 14-0 with 6:03 remaining in the first quarter, after driving 73 and 54 yards for TDs, the Warriors let the down-trodden Alexandria Cardinals off the hook with a defensive letdown. Brainerd battled back to claim a 28-24 triumph.

60 years ago (1952)

Chester Dols, owner of Dols Paint Store in Brainerd, was taken to the University of Minnesota hospital suffering from polio. He was taken ill Thursday and diagnosed Saturday. 1952 will be a record year, locally and nationally, for polio cases.

80 years ago (1932)

Two men, charged with stealing rutabagas from the farm of Levi Bailey, were remanded to jail until Tuesday, when their trial will be heard by Judge Warner. They were arrested early in the week and were unable to make their bond of $50.

100 years ago (1912)

Leroy A. Sewall, of the Sewall Bros. livery barn, left here last night for Montana where he expects to buy a carload of horses. He will ship them to Brainerd to be used in his livery business.
