Today is a day of rest for Don Saathoff, something he hasn’t had time for in years. For the past 21 years Saathoff and wife Darlene have owned and operated Jake’s Price Fighter Foods, but now have sold it to Dick and Diane Schulstad of Little Falls.
30 years ago (1982)
The tainted candy scare hit Brainerd last night, as a 10-year-old boy found a nail in a piece of Halloween candy. The nail was found before the candy was eaten, however, and did not cause injury. The police have a description of the man who gave out the candy.
40 years ago (1972)
Two minor fires in Brainerd and some burning cornstalks in outlying areas were the extent of Halloween pranks reported by law officers. A waste paper dumpster behind the Dispatch was set on fire and a few minutes earlier trash behind Gibson’s was set ablaze.

William Moran, of Nisswa, who operates a popular night club, has announced new improvements. The building has been enlarged with a 30 by 64 foot addition, which will have a maple floor, booths and a new furnace. Moran’s is noted for its cuisine.
100 years ago (1912)
I. U. White has made many improvements to his property on Gull Lake. A cozy summer home has been built, including a large barn, an ice house and a boat house. All that is needed now, said White, is a good road to the place, and that will come eventually.
