The deer population has exploded. The number of antlerless permits has skyrocketed. A possible record number of deer hunters are expected to harvest yet another record number of whitetail deer. The deer population is estimated at 1.1 million deer.

30 years ago (1982)

(Photo) 16-year-old Erik Blomlie proudly displays his first deer, a 5-point, 141-pound buck, shot just west of Lake Edward. Hunting with Blomlie was Curt Compton. Keith Glasgow, owner of the Log Cabin Restaurant, signed the deer into their annual contest.

40 years ago (1972)

When Dan Whitney was asked by the Dispatch reporter if there were any deaths this morning after yesterday’s election, the undertaker and deputy coroner said: “No, no deaths. Only a few dead politicians.”
