Archie Teigen, the Brainerd Hardanger fiddler, at age 81 has more awards – 92 – than years. He is in the Old-Time Fiddlers Hall of Fame, only the third recipient from Minnesota to be honored by the National Traditional Country Music Association.

30 years ago (1982)

(Photo) Appreciation Day was held recently at the Blue Ox Coop. On hand for pancakes were Ray Norrgard, Land O’ Lakes service rep; Gary Thiesse, petroleum division manager; and Jeff Helmer, general manager of the coop.

40 years ago (1972)

The Crow Wing County Board will decide whether to deepen a channel leading to Gull River in order to provide a second outlet from Red Sand Lake. At a meeting of lakeshore owners, residents of White Sand feared high water levels without the new outlet.

60 years ago (1952)

Dr. L. J. Arhart was back in his dental office on S. 7th Street today after a two-year stretch in the Navy, including seven months in Korea. He married his wife, Ann, in Seattle shortly after entering service. They have a new son, Steve, born while he was in Korea.

80 years ago (1932)

A Pierz man saved himself $100 by returning promptly to Ramsey County court and serve 30 days for liquor law violations. When arrested, he had asked for a two-month stay to plow his fields, which the judge granted. The fine has been waived and he is serving his time.

100 years ago (1912)

(Adv.) Brainerd Opera House – Matinee and Night Performances on Thanksgiving Nov. 28th. Johnny McCabe stars as “Buster Brown,” the effervescent exponent of boyish fun. A show for children and grown up children. Admission: 25, 50 and 75 cents, and $1.00.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
