After the Warrior girls won their basketball game against Alexandria 70-49, Margit Rinke was asked if she knew who John Emerson was. “No,” she said, “is he the school cop?” Actually, he was Brainerd’s 3rd all-time scorer, until Rinke just passed him.
30 years ago (1982)
Led by 5-11 senior forward Kitty Brown’s 25 points and 14 rebounds, Coach Roger Nibbe’s Warrior girls made it three straight wins on the road, this one a 50-45 triumph over Alexandria. Brainerd needed help off the bench due to foul trouble.
40 years ago (1972)
A St. Paul man escaped injury but his snowmobile was completely demolished in a collision at 1:30 a.m. with a freight train near Little Pine Resort, just south of Hwy 210 west of Brainerd. He managed to jump from his machine just before the train hit it.

Charging laxness in the sale of liquor to juveniles and the “displaying of suggestive literature on newsstands and lewd souvenirs in some stores,” Brainerd’s Ministerial Assn. called on the community to join a crusade against the moral detriment to our children.
