Margit Rinke made Warrior history late in the third period against Thief River Falls when she became Brainerd’s all-time leading basketball scorer. The 6-1 senior scored on a layup to break Jim Smith’s record of 1,376 points set in 1951.

30 years ago (1982)

A vandal who left a bloody trail behind him made a “total disaster” of a city home last night, smashing furniture and mirrors and tipping over the Christmas tree. The damage will amount to thousands of dollars to the home owned by a man currently on vacation.

40 years ago (1972)

The problem of how to divide 4,221 acres of land which the county and Northwest Paper jointly own was discussed by the county board. The situation developed when Northwest began buying up tax forfeited interests in land 25 years ago, with the county owning the balance.

60 years ago (1952)

For the second straight night Brainerd was barely able to top 20 percent shooting and went down to a 61-50 defeat at the hands of Hibbing. The previous night the Warriors lost to the towering Virginia basketball team by a score of 56-42, both games at home.

Andrew Scott, deputy state organizer for the Loyal Order of Moose, has returned after installing a lodge at Virginia. Organization of a lodge in Brainerd is pending and prospects never seemed brighter for the early arrival of a local charter.
