The owners of two dogs were issued warnings for allowing their dogs to run free after their dogs chased and killed a deer on the Mississippi River south of the Potlatch dam. The DNR said it is against the law to allow dogs to chase big game animals.

The Brainerd Warriors won five events but settled for 2nd place in its 3rd Annual Holiday Swimming and Diving Relay Meet. Grand Rapids finished first in only three events but had more runner-up finishes to total 110 points to Brainerd’s 104. Staples was third.
40 years ago (1972)
Eugene Swanson, Brainerd postmaster and sectional center manager, is retiring from government service as of today. He joined the post office here in 1944. Appointed officer in charge will be Roy Knott, who has been with the postal service here since 1963.

When municipal court opens on Jan. 2nd, Carl E. Erickson will be on the bench. Erickson, who was elected to the bench in December, 1951, has just returned from Japan where he had been head of the legal branch for part of General Headquarters, Far East Command.

Smarting under a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Ironton hockey outfit, Brainerd’s Red Devils worked hard today in preparation for a rematch on New Year’s Day. Their defense is pretty well set but they have their work cut out to bolster the offense.

Si Hall has gone to Nisswa to put up ice for the many cottagers who make their summer homes there. Mr. Hall has quite a crew of men in his employ and cuts and stores the ice in remarkably fast time.
