Anyone who knows basketball knows Little Falls doesn’t give up without a fight. Brainerd, ranked 3rd in the Class AA poll, ducked the Flyers knockout punch and came away with a thrilling 46-43 decision at Little Falls to move to 15-1 on the season.

30 years ago (1983)

If you had eight loves of bread to feed 350 people, many would go hungry. Eight jobs for 350 people looking for work go about as far. Those were the actual number of jobs available and people who walked through the door of the Brainerd Job Service last week.

40 years ago (1973)

Brainerd police officers were at the airport here today for the first time acting as security guards. This despite the fact a federal judge delayed until Feb. 15 implementation of new regulations requiring a police officer on hand before each passenger plane is boarded.

60 years ago (1953)

A completed survey by state entomologists of the forest tent caterpillar situation reveals Crow Wing County may escape the worst of it this year. The worms strip leaves from trees but don’t kill them. Area resort business was hurt last summer by the infestation.

80 years ago (1933)

A woman, indicted with her hired man for the first degree murder of a Pine River farmer, has been committed to the state hospital for the insane at St. Peter. Judge Thwing ordered that she be returned for trial when, and if, she is pronounced cured.

100 years ago (1913)

When Knute Lagerquist came to his grocery store Monday he was astounded to see a green butterfly emerge from under the stove. It is still flying about the store, evidently coming from a box of bananas recently arrived. Butterflies in 23 below zero weather!
