20 years ago (1993)

A new program in Crow Wing County will ensure that children get their day in court. Children are often auxiliary participants. The guardian ad litem lets judges appoint volunteers to act as advocates to look after the child’s best interests in court.


30 years ago (1983)

(Adv.) Good Luck to the Brainerd High School Kixters! They will participate Feb. 11 and 12 in the 16th Annual Miss Drill Team USA Pageant and Competition to be held in the Los Angeles Sports Arena. They will compete in Show Drill Team and Dance Precision.

40 years ago (1973)

Six area boys were named Eagle Scouts in the highlight of the Pine Tree District’s Recognition Banquet at the Elk’s Club. Honored were: Craig Nathan, Bob Paine, Kevin Anderson, Bob Strong, Dave Skogen and Larry Sneva. Pete Humphrey presented the awards.

60 years ago (1953)

While the Warriors failed to gain ground on league-leading C-I, they staged a furious fourth quarter comeback against Aitkin, nipping them 61-58. A 22-point performance by Bill Selisker and seven of eight free throws in the final quarter did the trick.

80 years ago (1933)

Members of the Brainerd Fire Dept. were nursing frost-bitten noses and fingers after fighting a house fire on J Street in 30 below temperatures. The house was a total loss. Firefighters asked the Dispatch to thank Mrs. Hendricks, who brought them coffee.

100 years ago (1913)

A local man has charged his step-son, living in the vicinity of Rice Lake, with grand larceny. He claims the step-son sold two of his heifers, one for $25 and the other for $20, then appropriated the money for his own use. The young man will be called to court.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
