Filing dates have been set for the May 18 school board election. Seats currently held by Jan Moran and Jon Haapajoki will be up for re-election. The school board approved opening a polling site in Crow Wing Township, providing it is handicapped accessible.

When an ice angler hauls in a nice crappie lured to the hook by a minnow, he should thank the minnow harvester. Every 36 hours, Jerry Henry, Pillager, and Charlie Brown, Motley, pull their minnow traps from a shallow lake in the Pillsbury State Forest.

The bill reinstating boxing in the state, and sponsored by the American Legion, has passed. The local post has received approval by the city council to apply for a license with the state boxing commission. Local boxing fans are enthusiastic for the move.

That the matter of a public market is being considered by farmers and other land owners of the county is evidenced by replies being received by the Boosters Club to the letter sent out recently to 500 area residents. Several positive responses have been received.
