(Photo) Mark Schoephoerster assists Dr. Joe Dudding, clinical supervisor for the Dental Assistant program at Brainerd Vo-Tech. Schoephoerster has made history by being the first male ever to enter the Dental Assistant program at the institute.
40 years ago (1973)
Rector Douglas Lorig and the vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church have hired Brainerd Channel 6 to tape the 10:30 a.m. service each Sunday and play it at noon on TV. New lighting and a sound system have been installed to facilitate the program.
60 years ago (1953)
Bill Selisker, Warrior quarterback considered by many one of the best backs in the state, has received high recognition. Selisker has been named honorable mention to the national high school All-American all-star football team for 1952.
80 years ago (1933)
The Friendly Center, a unit of the Brainerd Community Relief Fund, issued an appeal to all citizens as they inaugurate a new drive for used clothing. The need for warm clothes for destitute residents was noted by the American Legion, as they donated 200 items.
100 years ago (1913)
At the Barrows mine work is proceeding to install the big 3,000 gallon pump. When complete, 100 additional men will be put to work. An electric plant has been installed and the motor cars for use in the mine have arrived. A third shaft will be started in the spring.
