The Warrior boys’ basketball team moved closer to a CLC championship with a 48-40 victory at the St. Cloud Tech Tigers. Brainerd is 10-1 in the conference and 13-5 overall. If they win at home against Monticello they will clinch at least a share of the title.

The future of airline service to Brainerd will reach a crossroad on Sept. 30 and Republic Airlines is watching the outcome. That’s the date that ends the longstanding federal subsidy to encourage airline service to small and medium-sized cities.

Trailing defending champ Staples by 6.5 points with five matches to go, Brainerd’s Paul Straka and Joe Mogenson got big wins for the Warriors to take the District 24 wrestling title by a single point, 145.5 to 144.5. Wadena was third at 123.5 points.

Paul Bunyan will again be the main tourist attraction theme of the lakes area at the National Travel Show in Chicago. Larry Lopp, executive director of Paul Bunyan Vacationland, has left for the show with 75,000 color brochures featuring Paul.

A Dispatch reporter accompanied Warden A. P. Cardle on a recent trip to feed the game birds. Near Merrifield, a good sized bunch of birds was found near the Cook place. They came quickly to the corn provided. Fifty pheasants did the same at the Bowman place.

The salary of Sheriff Fred Reid has been raised to $1,800 per year by Judge McClenahan. Reid had served four years at a salary of $1,200. When the county commissioners raised it to $1,400, Reid protested it as insufficient and appealed it to the courts.
