20 years ago (1993)

Fire Marshal Mark Germain, investigator of the fire that destroyed the Blue Goose Inn at Garrison last weekend, said officials are close to solving the arson case. The property is owned by the 1st National Bank of Deerwood, which has been trying to find a buyer.

(Photo) Trent Pikula, 11, shares a smile with his family while describing his reaction to an invitation to sing with the prestigious Paris Boys Choir this June. Trent, the only youngster chosen from Minnesota, will join a 17-day tour to four countries.

(Photo) Earl Johnson, station manager of KLIZ Radio, and announcer Ron Olson are shown going over equipment for the FM stereo station (95.7) which features contemporary music. KLIZ began as an AM station in Brainerd in 1946.

60 years ago (1953)

(Photo) This collection of shoplifted merchandise worth $2,000 was dug from a snowdrift at White Acres Resort by County Sheriff Roy Wicklund and the Carlton County sheriff. Being held in jail are a woman from the resort and another from Irondale Township.

80 years ago (1933)

(Adv.) Come – Sunday Night to the Pine Beach Gateway Club! On Highway 19, just 4 miles north of Brainerd, for the big party with music by Ylinen’s Nite Club Orchestra. Admission is 35 cents per couple – No Stags Allowed.

100 years ago (1913)

Rosko Brothers have sold to Alderman James Eider a six cylinder, 50 horsepower Oldsmobile. This is the first car of its kind in Brainerd. It is a self starter and electrically lighted and a model of convenience and reliability, and is a most beautiful car.
