A suspect, chased by law enforcement last night at speeds over 100 miles per hour, slipped away. The chase went west on County 117, through Meadowview Manor, into the woods, then east and south, losing him at South Long Lake. The car was a Camaro with no plates.

A knife-wielding bandit hit Sportland Bait and Tackle in Nisswa, but fled after he was refused money by a store owner who said “You’ve got to be kidding.” The suspect, a 19-year-old rural Brainerd man, was arrested minutes later thanks to a license plate number.

Purchase of the outstanding shares of the Brainerd Dispatch Newspaper Co. from the W.J. McGiffin Newspaper Co. was announced today by H.F. McCollough, Dispatch publisher. McCollough, McGiffin and W.D. Junkin purchased the paper in 1931.
