Although the mercury has plummeted below zero, for many area residents the temperature is over 100. The flu season has hit Brainerd. Schools are reporting record absenteeism and St. Joseph’s Hospital is full to overflowing for the first time in years.

The Brainerd school board will advertise for bids on the operation of the district’s three bus routes, a procedure that has not been required in the past. A recent opinion by the Attorney General requires that bus routes be open to competitive bidding.

The world famous St. Olaf Choir, under the direction of Dr. Olaf Christiansen, transported the audience at Washington High School’s gym with a pre-tour concert. One of the sixty voices is Bonnie Hansen, sister of high school choir director Curt Hansen.

Allocation of funds for improving the Brainerd airport under the CWA program was announced today by city officials. Improvements costing $11,076 will mean the employment of 120 for a month, with work to be completed by Feb. 15th.

Warm, sunshiny weather has melted away all the snow. The absence of snow is proving a hindrance to the farmers who are unable to haul much wood as long as present conditions last.
