20 years ago (1994)

Somewhere Al Michaels was smiling. While the Warrior’s 56-55 basketball victory over 6th ranked Moorhead pales in comparison to the U.S. hockey victory over the Russians in 1980, it was inspiring. Wade Haapajoki hit four clutch free throws near the end to seal it.

30 years ago (1984)

A work session between Baxter and Brainerd city officials targeted a possible $9.7 million expansion of the Westgate Mall. It would include a Herberger’s department store as co-anchor with existing K-Mart, plus a restaurant, drugstore and 3-screen theatre.

40 years ago (1974)

60 years ago (1954)

A 20-point burst in the third quarter pushed the Warrior basketball team into the lead, which they held for a 62-49 conference win over C-I. Center Ken Wasnie of Brainerd led all scorers with 18 points. Two members of each team fouled out, with 48 fouls called.

80 years ago (1934)

100 years ago (1914)

Between the hours of noon and 1 p.m. today the store of B. Soloski, 223 S. 6th Street, was entered and the till was tapped for $39. The police were called and watched all outgoing trains. Soloski had received a phone call, and when he left the store the robbery occurred.
