20 years ago (1994)

Customers were happy, and other area service stations expressed surprise that unleaded gas was selling for 95.9 cents a gallon at the Crosby EZ Stop. And it had been 93.9 earlier in the week. Other Crosby stations were at 99.9 and Brainerd stations at 1.119.

30 years ago (1984)

An 8.8 performance by Shannon McGinnis on the balance beam highlighted the undefeated Warrior’s 120.0 to 116.7 conference win over the Little Falls Flyers. “It had to be the outstanding performance of the meet,” said Brainerd coach Dave Maras.

40 years ago (1974)

The Brainerd City Council voted unanimously to appoint Dick Johnson, secretary of the water and light board, as the new city clerk effective March 1st. He replaces Jim Brockman, who resigned after a lengthy battle over the city’s residency requirements.

A team that couldn’t find its basket eye, representing Brainerd, last year’s district and regional champs, today was enroute to Cass Lake for the second game of its road trip after being administered an 18-13 drubbing by an aroused Bemidji basketball team.

100 years ago (1914)

Representatives of the bowling teams of the city will meet at the store of Wright and Grant in the Citizens State Bank block at 8 p.m. to form a bowling league. All teams desiring to enter should have a man there. A new team, the Broadways, has been formed.
