(Adv.) $5,000 Reward! Offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who vandalized the offices of the Brainerd Dispatch with gunfire around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 27th. Those with information can call Crimestoppers or the Brainerd Police.

30 years ago (1984)

With a rare victory on the St. Cloud Apollo court, Coach Carl Hendrickson’s Warrior boys find themselves sharing the conference lead at 3-1. The 51-48 win over Apollo gave them two consecutive wins after losing six in a row, and brings their season record to 5-6.

40 years ago (1974)

A massive power outage at 2:25 a.m. today plunged north and northeast Brainerd into darkness. The temp was -4 degrees. The outage shut down the paper mill, put St. Joseph’s Hospital on emergency generator and caused a plane on approach at the airport to divert to Bemidji.

60 years ago (1954)

The state Department of Aeronautics has asked the federal Civil Aeronautics Board to deny motions by North Central Airlines to suspend service on the routes serving Brainerd. They are asking for two round-trips daily on the service through Brainerd.

80 years ago (1934)

Funeral arrangements were pending for a 39-year-old Brainerd resident who took his life by hanging himself with his muffler in his cell at the Crow Wing County jail. He had been taken there for observation at the request of family members pending a possible commitment.

100 years ago (1914)

A grass fire called out the fire department during the noon hour. This is great winter weather which permits grass to be ignited in the middle of January.
