The Nisswa Volunteer Fire Department will have a new fire hall by next year. The Nisswa council unanimously approved construction of a $500,000 facility and the bonding to finance it. About 25 firefighters attended the council meeting.

(Photos) Walter Buraw of Remer speared this 32-pound northern at a lake in the Outing area. Dan Fletcher speared this 27-3 northern in six feet of water at a lake in the Emily area. Both fish were weighed in at Tom’s Bait Shop.

Brainerd and Sebeka schools will represent District 24 in the regional One-Act Play competition. Brainerd’s entry is “Spoon River” by Edgar Lee Masters. It was directed by Doug Johnson. Nine other district schools participated in the contest.
60 years ago (1954)
Season victory No. 7 was an easy one for Fred Kellett’s rugged Warriors, who all but blasted Wadena’s hapless Indians off the court in a 69-39 win. Wadena got tough in the 2nd half, drawing 20 fouls in 16 minutes for a total of 30 for the game.

Axel Fall is leading the cribbage players at the Elks Club with 12,798 points. Dr. A.K. Cohen annexed 2nd place with a perfect score of 1,210 against Supt. of Schools Harold Molstad this week for a total of 12,771. Players have completed 110 of 230 games.
100 years ago (1914)
Yesterday the Brainerd railway express staff handled a bull calf as a package, and today received two Shetland ponies, nicely crated. Last week a monkey was shipped and the week before a 50-pound pig came through on parcel post. The boys wonder what next.
