A bill promising $22.5 million for merging the Brainerd Community and Technical College campuses cleared its first legislative hurdle yesterday. Rep. Tony Kinkel warns Brainerd that the $230 million package with Brainerd funding still has a long way to go.

(Photo) Donna Gross, owner-operator of Donna’s Hair ‘N’ Things on Front Street, will celebrate her 40th year in the beauty business with an open house. Her shop has been open for 34 straight years, the longest of any beauty salon in Brainerd.

Mrs. John Hohman, Brainerd, was walking along 8th St. near Washington last evening when a man ran up from behind, struck her with a beer bottle, and grabbed her purse. The man, said to be six-feet tall with bushy hair, dragged her when she held on to her purse.

Police Chief Louis Rofidal and Sgt. Joe Nolan went wolf hunting at the cemetery this morning. Pete Schwendeman, Northeast resident, said he’d seen a wolf inside the fence, and the police got their rifles. The wolf had wandered back to the swamps before they arrived.

A band of thieves made high carnival in Brainerd last night and flaunted their work so brazenly that they made two trips with a wagon and team to haul their loot. At three businesses they stole a road wagon, some sacks of flour and sacks of feed.
