  What is NIE? NIE is an abbreviation for Newspapers in Education, a division of The Brainerd Daily Dispatch created to provide newspapers and education programs to lakes area schools.
  Who uses NIE programs & services? Public and private school educators throughout the lakes area us The Dispatch to motivate and teach students in kindergarden through 12th grade, in all subject areas.
  When can educators receive newspapers? Educators can receive newspapers anytime during the year, for as long as they wish.
  Where are NIE services available? Classrooms in The Dispatch delivery area can have the newspaper delivered directly to their school's office.
 

Why should educators be interested in NIE? Studies show that students whose teachers use newspapers in their classrooms:

  • Score better on tests
  • Demonstrate better reading, writing, and comprehension skills
  • Are more politically aware
  • Exhibit stronger feelings of civic responsibility
