Boy, 17, killed by hit-and-run driver in Andover
ANDOVER, Minn. -- A 17-year-old boy was killed about 6 p.m. Friday in Andover when he was struck by a vehicle that left the scene.
According to the Anoka County sheriff's office, the teen was with friends at a house in the 700 block of 141st Avenue. The friends told authorities he had stepped out of the residence. They heard a dull thud followed by screeching tires. When they went outside to investigate, they saw their friend lying in the street.
The teen was pronounced dead at the scene with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle, said Cmdr. Paul Sommer, the public information officer for the sheriff's office. He declined to identify the teen, who was from the northwestern Anoka County community of Nowthen.
No one reported seeing the vehicle. Police are asking anyone with information about the hit-and-run to contact the sheriff's office at 763-427-1212.
