Dance Team: Aitkin wins Mid-State jazz meet
CROSBY—Aitkin won the Mid-State Conference jazz meet Thursday with a rank score of 3.
Runner-up Pequot Lakes had a rank score of 8 and Crosby-Ironton finished third with a 10. Fourth place went to Pierz.
"We recently made a lot of changes to our jazz routine and the team performed and scored the highest score of the season," C-I coach Amy Turk said. "Both Aitkin and Pequot had very solid performances so we were happy to be close in total scores to them. We are tied with Pequot Lakes in the conference so the championship will be an exciting meet, even though we are in different classes come section time.
"The JV team has placed first or second at every competition and to do so well this year is very promising for the future."
GLENWOOD—Wadena-Deer Creek placed fourth at Thursday's Minnewaska Invitational.
Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City won the meet with Minnewaska runner-up.
"We were not able to dance jazz due to the flu running through the team," W-DC coach Beth Motschenbacher said. "The varsity girls performed their kick. They were the only team to perform from Section 4A, so it was great to see other teams from other sections.
"With few fumbles, the goal for the girls was to strengthen their kick height, one of the categories we needed to work on. Although improving on our kicks, we still have to work on memory and placement of kicks."
W-DC's next competition is Saturday at the Hawley Invite.
