Hockey: Wisconsin sweeps North Stars
BREEZY POINT—The Wisconsin Whalers swept the Breezy Point North Stars in Tier III junior hockey action Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29.
Wisconsin won 8-3 Friday, Sept. 28, and then edged the North Stars 3-2 Saturday, Sept. 29, at Breezy Point Arena.
On Friday, Breezy Point trailed 3-2 after the first period as Evan O'Connor and Carson Simon scored for the home team. Gunner Bourassa tied it midway through the second period before the Whalers answered with the final five goals. Winning netminder Kai Tomita stopped 36 shots while the North Stars' Lucas Ehrlich had 38 saves.
On Saturday, Breezy Point's Kaymen Kitchen scored in the first period to tie it 1-1. Wisconsin assumed a 3-1 lead before the North Stars' Braeden Zaste scored to cut the deficit to 3-2 with 5:26 remaining. Tomita made 35 saves to earn the victory while Breezy Point goaltender Lane Fox had 44 saves.
The North Stars, 1-5 overall, are scheduled to host unbeaten Milwaukee with 7:30 p.m. games on Friday, Oct. 5, and Saturday, Oct. 6.
