Alvie Carl Norr, age 86, of Brainerd passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. Alvie was born to Robert and Florence (Erickson) Norr on February 16, 1930. He was the ninth child of ten and was raised on a dairy farm near Freedhem, MN.
Alvie joined the United States Army and served active duty in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He met Lois Houchins in Little Falls, MN. They were united in marriage on September 22, 1956. Together they farmed, spent a year at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Wisconsin, and then moved to Brainerd where Alvie began his work in construction. Alvie worked as a self-employed concrete contractor in the Brainerd, Deerwood, Aitkin and Crosby-Ironton area for 50 years. He loved working and continued pouring concrete until 85 years of age. He was a strong and humble man of God, who took great pride in both his family and his work.
He was known for his integrity, his quality work, telling stories about his experiences and his quick-witted sense of humor.
Alvie is survived by his loving wife, Lois. Children: Joan (Joe) McKinnon,Tammy (Mark) Erickson, Brenda (Harold) Whirley, Eric (Sandy) Norr. Grandchildren: Aimee (Chad) Tabaka, Kristi (Randy) Ellingson, Zachary
(Chelsie) Wermager, Josh Mattson, Nikki McKinnon, Joshua (Lisa) Whirley, Katie (Ryan) Hyllested, Kristie McKinnon, Travis Whirley, Lucas Norr, Bailey Horn, Jacob Norr, Cassie Erickson, Sam Norr, and Jackson Norr.
Great Grandchildren: Parker, Kianna, and Easton Ellingson, Madison and Jacob Tabaka, Mya and Carter Wermager, Whitney and Rylie Whirley, Morgan Johnson and Piper Horn. Brothers: Richard Norr and Donald Norr. Brothers-in-Law: Kenny (Alice) Houchins, and Robert Houchins. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were very special to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Florence, Sisters:Dorothy (Harry) Larson, Harriet Norr, Margaret (Thure) Larson, and Agnes (Leo) Schroeder. Brothers: Ted (Kay) Norr, Harvey (June and Jo) Norr,

Funeral Service for Alvie will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11AM at Faith Baptist Church in Brainerd. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 4-7PM at Halvorson Johnson Funeral Home-BAXTER CHAPEL, and one hour prior to the service, Friday at the church. Burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, near Little Falls.
A special thanks to the Heartland Hospice staff and the Oncology Department at Essentia Health for their loving care to Alvie and his entire family. Their kindness, patience, and care throughout Alvie's illness was extremely meaningful.
