age 87, of Fort Ripley MN. Born September 15,1930 to Roy and Magdalena Begin in Minneapolis MN. Marv passed away in St Cloud, MN on December 24, 2017. Growing up on the family farm in Hamel MN taught him that working hard can be very rewarding. His grandfather also was a farmer and liked to see the family working together. Marv joined the Service as soon as he was old enough. He worked as a Signalman in the Army Corp. When he came home from the Service His Family sold the Farm and moved into the town of Robinsdale,MN. When he met Lois A Berg and they decided to marry on January 28th 1950. They lived in Minneapolis and Marv worked several jobs and drove Cab for awhile. They had 2 children Linda and Carol in 1950 and 1951. Work was slow and Marv decided to take a job in the construction business. Marv and Lois Divorced. Marv became a painter and worked in the Masonry business. He later met Virginia D Rosene and in 1961 they remarried. Virginia had 3 children from her first marriage Susan, Douglas and Cheryl. He decided to take his new family and move to Mesa AZ. His Step Father and Step Mother moved to Mesa also. They stayed in Arizona and he worked Building houses until 1987. In the fall of 1987 they moved back to Minnesota. They settled in the Fort Ripley area, Marv was always very interested in Politics and Community & State issues. In 1989 Gov. Rudy Perpich attended a highway safety meeting in Brainerd where Marv was a speaker about Hwy Safety and how installing passing lanes on Hwy 371 could save lives. Also he pushed for a stop light at Buffalo Hills and Hwy 371 which was a dangerous intersection. and one was installed.
In 1990 Marv joined a group to stop G W E N Towers from being built in Morrison County. He was concerned with saving the Environment. By 1994 congress quit funding Towers being built in the USA.
IN 1993- 1997 he served 5 years on the County HRA -2 year as chair. In 1992 he was asked if he wanted to run for Senate - he respectfully declined but ran for a County Commission seat instead. He served on the Highway Citizens Committee.
1995-1996 He worked to save the Fort Ripley Post office from closing. sent many letters to Senators and other Representatives. He worked to Lower the tax rate for farmers and residents. He and his wife took up a petition to rename the 7 mile road he lived on to " Sleepy Hollow Road". which it is know as today. He ran for District 12B Representative. He had many speaking engagements supporting Affordable Housing, Affordable Health Care, Jobs, and saving Neighborhood schools, cutting excess spending and other Environmental issues. He joined with the Peace Coalition.
Preceded in Death by his wife: Virginia Begin, his parents: Roy and Magdalena Begin. daughter; Linda Hollis, sisters: Evon Murphy, and Wanda Monk. brothers: David and Louis Skanson. step-daughter: Cheryl Leon step-grandson: Marc Hartman.
Survived by: daughter: Carol Soldo and fianc: Frank Barrett brother: Bernard (Terri) Begin. 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren. 2 stepchildren : Susan Hartman, Douglas Hartman. 3 step-grandchildren. several step-great-grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews. Marv Will be Deeply Missed by So Many other Family and Friends and Neighbors and Acquaintances.

June 24th 2018 at: St Andrew's Catholic Church , 1108 Willow St, Brainerd MN 56401 from 1 PM to 3 PM. at the Reception Hall behind the Church.
