Harold 'Chuck' Metteer

SEBEKA — Harold “Chuck” Ira Metteer, 88, of Sebeka, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at the Fergus Falls Veteran’s Home. Memorial services were held on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Nimrod Lutheran Church. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his Nimrod coffee buddies. Private interment was at The Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Harold was born on Feb. 10, 1922, in Lynch, Neb., to Arthur (Wes) and Leafa (Hinkley) Metteer. He met and married Gladys Holec on Oct. 9, 1947, in Luverne, Minn. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Harold worked as a farmer and in road construction all his life and he enjoyed reading and working with horses. Harold was a member of the VFW Post No. 7319 in Wagner, S.D., and American Legion No. 456 of Sebeka, Minn.

Harold is survived by his wife, Gladys, of 63 years; children, Lyle (Rhoda) Metteer, Jimmie (Donna) Metteer, Joyce (Edwin) Hepola, Judy Metteer, JoLynn (Larry) Weaver, Janelle (Glen) Swenson and Jane (Joe) Brockpahler; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Cleo McDonald, Mildred Holec and Eileen Metteer; brothers, Earl (Bill), Donald (Jack) and Jimmy Metteer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
